The main pattern in this issue is clear: marine-heatwave research is moving beyond surface SST and surface Chl-a toward subsurface warming, DCM/SCM changes and community responses; BGC-Argo studies are moving from profile description toward NCP, POC export, oxygen-nitrate coupling and microbial-process diagnostics; and ocean-colour work is increasingly organized around PACE, hyperspectral sensing, multi-sensor fusion and machine learning, especially for bbp, IOPs, phytoplankton community structure and long-term Chl-a records. Together, these papers point toward a three-dimensional carbon-pump framework that links surface ocean colour, vertical profiles and event-scale disturbances.

This study uses sediment-trap evidence to analyse annual variations in sinking-particle flux and reactivity in the Pacific Arctic. It focuses not only on how much material sinks, but also on how chemically and biologically reactive that material is. The analysis compares particle flux with primary production or environmental conditions across different years. The results show that sinking flux and particle reactivity do not always vary together. It is important for understanding Arctic carbon export, particle degradation, and interpretation of sediment-trap records.

This study uses a neural emulator to identify drivers and dynamics of phytoplankton in the Black Sea. It compresses complex biogeochemical-model behaviour or observational relationships into a faster machine-learning representation. The analysis examines how environmental variables control phytoplankton variability and whether the emulator can reproduce key dynamics. The result is a tool for rapid exploration and forecasting of Black Sea ecosystem states. It is useful for regional biogeochemical prediction, model acceleration, and operational oceanography.

This study analyses the subsurface biogeochemical response to Hurricane Idalia within a cyclonic eddy and river-plume-stratified environment. It focuses on how storm disturbance interacts with pre-existing eddy structure, freshwater plumes, and stratification. The work uses profile or field observations to resolve changes in subsurface chlorophyll, nutrients, and related variables. The results show that storm impacts are not limited to the surface and can reshape subsurface ecological conditions through mixing and water-mass structure. It is valuable for studies of extreme weather, vertical mixing, and SCM or DCM responses.
